AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers

The BLS for Healthcare Providers course is designed to provide a wide variety of certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed, healthcare professionals with the skills to keep people alive until they can be brought to a hospital or be treated with more advanced lifesaving measures.

 

BLS training is intended for certified or noncertified, licensed or nonlicensed, healthcare professionals, including:

  • physicians
  • nurses
  • paramedics
  • emergency medical technicians
  • respiratory, physical, and occupational therapists
  • physician’s assistants
  • residents or fellows
  • medical or nursing students in training
  • aides, medical or nursing assistants, and other allied health personnel

In addition, BLS training can be appropriate for first responders, such as police officers and firefighters, as well as for laypeople whose work brings them into contact with members of the public, such as school, fitness center, or hotel and restaurant employees.

Students must pass a written exam and skills test in order to qualify for a BLS for Healthcare Provider Course Completion Card.

American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider - Recert (Update) Course

Upon completion of this PALS class the health care provider will be able to understand how to recognize and prevent the common causes of pediatric injuries and emergencies that require resuscitation. You’ll understand how to recognize respiratory failure, shock, and cardiac arrest and initiate advanced resuscitation with airway and ventilation control, vascular access, fluid and medication therapy and identify and treat rhythm disturbances.

PALS Provider Manual:

You must have a 2020 Edition of the American heart Association PALS Provider Course Manual at class.

The AHA has made it mandatory for you to have a Provider Manual with you during class. You will not be able to take the class without a book. If you need to, you may purchase a book from us during registration and have the opportunity to have it shipped to you for a small fee.

American Heart Association ACLS Certification - 2 Year Certification

Recommended for: All healthcare professionals and medical personnel who may respond to a cardiovascular emergency as part of a team involved in the administration of cardiac drugs.

  • Management of acute coronary syndromes and stroke

Refreshments are provided.  This course lasts approximately 8 - 10 hours.  This class is a one-day course.  All students who successfully complete all requirements will receive their official American Heart Association ACLS Provider card the same-day of the class!  Your course completion card will be valid for a period of two (2) years from the date of your class.

Course Description

This online course trains bystanders in the community how to administer care to others with confidence in a life-threatening situation, where a victim, or victims, may lose their life due to a serious injury that results in bleeding. Instruction will include use of commercial bleeding control tools as well as information on how to create improvised bandages and tourniquets from everyday items. Completion of this course will prepare you to provide life-saving measures while waiting for Emergency Service Providers to arrive on scene and improve victim survival by ensuring smooth transition of care.
 
Learning Objectives
  • Identify steps to maintain personal safety
  • Describe the best techniques for the management of hemorrhaging wounds
  • Understand wound compression and packing using hemostatic agents
  • Compare correct application of elastic bands, both for wound compression and as a tourniquet
  • Review correct application and when to use a windlass tourniquet
  • Examine how to create and apply improvised bandages
  • Summarize how community responders and emergency service providers should work together to treat bleeding victims

Fire Investigation 1B: Evidence and Documentation

CTS Guide: Fire Investigator (February 2017)

Description: This course provides information on scene documentation and evidence collection/preservation. Topics include photographing the scene, diagramming the scene, constructing investigative notes, processing evidence and establishing chain of custody, processing victims and fatalities, selecting evidence for analysis, maintaining a chain of custody, preparing a fire investigation report, and disposing of evidence. The 2014 edition of NFPA 1033 Standard for Fire Investigator Professional Qualifications is the basis for this course.

Designed For: Fire investigators and law enforcement officers responsible for conducting fire investigations

Prerequisites: Fire Investigation 1A: Basic Fire Investigation Introduction to Evidence (CFITrainer.net)

Course: Company Officer 2D: All-Risk Command Operations (2014)

Hours: 40 

Designed For: Aspiring company officers

Description: This course provides information on conducting incident size-up, developing and implementing an initial plan of action involving single and multiunit operations for various types of emergency incidents to mitigate the situation following agency safety procedures, conducting preincident planning, and develop and conduct a post-incident analysis.

Prerequisites: Meet the educational requirements for Fire Fighter II ICS-200.B: Incident Command System For Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents Hazardous Material Incident Commander (as offered by the California Specialized Training Institute)

Certification: Fire Officer (Level I and II)

Total cost of class is $400. After $50 deposit, remaining balance of $350 due at class to the instructor by cash or check.

Course: Chief Fire Officer 3A: Human Resource Management For Chief Officers

Designed For: Aspiring Chief Officers

Description: This course provides students with a basic knowledge of the human resources requirements related to the roles and responsibilities of a Chief Fire Officer including developing plans for providing employee accommodation, developing hiring procedures, establishing personnel assignments, describing methods of facilitating and encouraging professional development, developing an ongoing education training program, developing promotion procedures, developing proposals for improving employee benefits, and developing a measurable accident and injury prevention program.

Standard: Complete all activities and formative tests. Complete all summative tests with a minimum score of 80%.

Class Size: 25

Restrictions: None

Course: Chief Fire Officer 3B: Budget and Fiscal Responsibilities 

Hours: 18 

Designed For: Aspiring Chief Officers

Description: This course provides students with a basic knowledge of the budgeting requirements related to the roles and responsibilities of a Chief Fire Officer including developing a budget management system, developing a division or departmental budget, and describing the process for ensuring competitive bidding.Certification: Fire Officer (Level I and II)

Standard: Complete all activities and formative tests. Complete all summative tests with a minimum score of 80%.

INSTRUCTOR II:  INSTRUCTIONAL DEVELOPMENT (2014)

Designed for:  Personnel preparing for a college level fire instructor, Company Officer, or SFT Certified Training Instructor position

Description:  This course provides the skills and knowledge needed for the intermediate level professional instructor to perform his or her duties safely, effectively, and competently.  The curriculum is based on the 2012 edition of NFPA 1041 Standard for Fire Service Instructor Professional Qualifications and the 2012 edition of NFPA 1403 Standard on Live Fire Training Evolutions.  At the end of this course, candidates for Instructor II certification will be able to develop lesson plans and evaluation instruments, teach and deliver instruction, and evaluate and coach other instructors.  The Instructor II will also be able to analyze resources and formulate a program budget.

Prerequisites:  Instructional Methodology

  • Introduction to the Incident Command System (IS-100.B), FEMA OR
  • National Incident Management System (IS-700.A), FEMA
